Jordan has been increasingly nervous about the conflict between Israel and Hamas turning into a wider conflagration and asked the US to deploy its Patriot air defense system to bolster its border defense.
Jordan Requested the US Patriot Air Defense System to be Deployed Amid Israel and Hamas Conflict
According to the Jerusalem Post, Jordan has requested Washington for Patriot air defense systems to be deployed on Sunday. It is in order to bolster its border defense at a time of heightened regional tensions and conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The Patriot missiles were stationed in the kingdom in 2013 following an uprising in northern neighbor Syria where the kingdom feared a civil war that could ignite into a regional conflict.
Possible Israel and Hamas Wider Conflict Agitates Jordan
According to Reuters, it is questioned why Jordan has made this sudden request and Jordan admitted that the conflict between Israel and Hamas agitates the nation as it would be possible that the conflict could turn into a wider conflagration.
The Patriot was considered one of the most advanced US air defense systems in which allies around the world are vying for the said air defense system. However, it is always low in supply.
