US Space Force Considers Small Geosynchronous Satellites to Enhance Military Communications Networks
N2YO reports that the US Space Force is currently exploring the use of small geosynchronous satellites as a way to improve military communications networks, highlighting that this must be purchased either through commercial services or government-owned constellations.
Clara Hopper, Chief of the US Space Force’s Commercial Satellite Communications Office, stated that the US Space Force is interested in procuring small satellites that can deliver connectivity from geosynchronous Earth orbit. Hopper additionally stated that the US Space Force is trying to leverage new capabilities from the commercial industry.

US Space Force and Satcom Operators Venture into MicroGEO Sector for Revolutionary Military Communications and Operations
According to Space News, the US Space Force’s research in exploring and assessing the advantages and potential risks of using smaller geosynchronous platforms – many companies are also entering the microGEO sector, including many satcoms operators.
However, many microGEO satellites have not been deployed in geo orbits as the satellites are still in the middle of assessment, it is still put in high regard as the traditional geocomm satellites are a flexible alternative that could revolutionize the military communications and operations.
