The Euclid spacecraft has discovered guiding stars, and the investigation of the dark universe continues.
Investigation of Dark Universe Continues
According to SPACE, the investigation of the dark universe continued as the Euclid spacecraft that was launched to investigate the dark matter and dark energy found a guiding star that could help with the investigation.
The investigation of the cosmological mysteries that are collectively known as dark matter started last July for its four-week journey. However, a problem arose after the spacecraft took its first image of the dark universe: the fine guidance sensor of the spacecraft had trouble finding its guiding stars.
Euclid Telescope Rescued From Threatening Glitch
According to Scientific American, the Euclid Telescope, which was sent to investigate the dark universe, was rescued from its threatening glitch while doing its mission.
Euclid had trouble finding the guiding stars due to cosmic rays, which charged particles that the sun during periods of high solar activity. Fortunately, the European Space Agency stated that they have resolved the aforementioned issue by updating some of the telescope’s software.
Due to this issue, the investigation of the dark universe will last at least six years and could even take up to six months longer. Giuseppe Racca, the manager of the project, says that the scientific goal of investigating the dark universe should not be affected.
