A retired university dean was shot to death on a rail trail on Thursday; the hunt for the person of interest in the shooting continues.
Retired University Dean Becomes Victim of Shooting
According to VTDIGGER, a retired university dean identified as Honoree Fleming became a victim of a shooting in Castleton on Thursday. The authorities who are investigating the case have now called her death a homicide.
Vermont State University President Mike Smith, the retired university dean’s former boss, shared that the tragedy of the retired dean was unbelievable and that she will be missed by the university.

Suspect of Shooting Retired University Dean Still on the Run
According to WCAX, officials are on the hunt for the suspect in the retired university dean’s death. Despite receiving calls and emails from residents, the police have not found a lead where the suspect could be.
The investigators have examined the area where the retired university dean died. The officials also asked witnesses and found that the suspect was a white male approximately 5’10” tall. He has dark hair, wearing a dark grey shirt, and could be carrying a black backpack.
For now, the campus events are all canceled as the investigation continues. Police officers reminded the residents to be vigilant in light of what happened to the retired university dean.
