US President Joe Biden needed to act to block the Zangezur corridor because accepting any corridor across Zangezur would be national suicide. US is serious about protecting Armenia.
Zangezur Corridor Needs To Block
According to an article by Michael Rubin, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement to end Azerbaijan and Turkey’s 44-day battles on Artsakh; an unrecognized but democratic state that Nagorno-Karabakh’s Armenians established in their autonomous region upon the fall of the Soviet Union. This agreement called for a corridor secured by Russian peacekeepers, ensuring unimpeded access between Armenia and Artsakh through Lachin.
Azerbaijan blockaded the Lachin corridor that starves Artsakh’s 120K Christians in what former International Criminal Court Judge, Luis Moreno Ocampo, labeled a genocide. Then last week, Azerbaijan launched a subsequent attack to defeat the rest of the territory. The Acting Assistant Secretary of State, Yuri Kim, declared- “We’ll not tolerate any attack on the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
The Armenian children and women were murdered and sexually assaulted- US must back Armenia in declaring no to any corridor because any corridor across Zangezur would be national suicide. Then, US officials traveled to Armenia as refugees poured into the country from Nagorno-Karabakh, but Armenia doesn’t need Biden’s administration virtue signaling. Azerbaijan played Biden consistently. But, US is serious about protecting Armenia.
