Concerns Of The Retailers in U.S
According to an article by Bill Peters, retail executives have talked a lot about the losses taken by theft, fraud, or employee error- especially sometimes violent organized thefts at stores. But, the retail industry found that it hasn’t increased that much. According to a report from the National Retail Federation, they found that the average rate in 2022 is increasing to 1.6% from 1.4 % in the prior year- the losses are increasing to $112.1 billion from 93.9 billion in 2021.
According to the report, the retailers were concerned about the violence of those crimes. Retailers prioritized the safety of their employees and customers. The report said- Target Corp. would close nine stores across four states due to thefts and dangers to employees. Target Corp. cannot continue operating these stores because thefts are threatening the safety of their employees and guests- resulting in unsustainable business performance.
According to the survey by the National Retail Federation or NRF, 28% reported being forced to close a specific store location, 45% cut operating hours, and 30% reduced or changed an in-store product selection as a result of retail crime. The types of products thefts are targeting may not be based solely on price point- they range from high-price or high-fashion items to daily products that have a fast resale capability.
