But, beneath the Hollywood glitter and coastal charm, there is a different story. This enormous metropolis is not without its dark corners, with specific districts acquiring notoriety for high crime rates ranging from violent offenses to property crimes and homelessness difficulties.

According to Southwest Journal, Downtown Los Angeles, usually shortened as DTLA, is one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles. According to the FBI’s 2021 crime data, the violent crime rate in DTLA is twelve times the national average. When property offenses are included, the overall crime rate jumps to a frightening 530% above the national average.

West Adams with a population of 11,961, is another one of the notoriously criminal and worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The crime rate in this city is 6,811 per 100,000 people, which means that residents have a 1 in 15 chance of being a victim of a crime.

The Wholesale District, also known as Skid Row, is home to one of America’s greatest homeless populations, with estimates ranging from 9,000 to 15,000 persons is also one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Crime in the Wholesale District has increased by 59% since 2010. There were 13,122 reported crimes in 2013, including 2,698 assaults, 1,350 vehicle break-ins, and 2,453 thefts.

There are numerous places in Los Angeles to avoid due to their notoriously high levels of violent crime, property crime, and vagrancy.

According to PropertyClub, people should be vigilant of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles, which include Hollywood, South Los Angeles, Compton, Watts, North Hollywood, Koreatown, and the Fashion District.

Rent in Hollywood and Koreatown is lower than in other parts of the city. Even with lower rent, these communities may not be the ideal places to live if safety is a concern, as they continue to struggle with property crime and homelessness.
