SOURCE– The success stems from the Ukrainian Air Force’s ability to dodge attacks by Russian missiles, aircraft, and drones. That success has added urgency to the US Air Force’s focus on being able to distribute its airmen and operate its aircraft while under attack. The concept of the Air Force for such operations is called Agile Combat Employment (ACE), predates the battle, and was devised with the Pacific in mind. Ukraine highlighted the capabilities of the US and its allies that need to develop.
The commander of US Air Forces Europe, General James Hecker, said that ACE was his top priority, and it’s part of the Air Force’s work on resilient basing, which the service leaders say is one of their operational imperatives. The Air Force units all around the world have incorporated ACE into their exercises, training to deploy faster to less developed bases, rearm and refuel on the go, and do more with fewer workforce.
Hecker said that 30-40 years ago they had a lot of air bases with protection that will landed no matter what country it was- that can give you gas, change your tires, and even load up weapons on your aircraft. They were going to work with the nations to get different kinds of aircraft like 30-40 years ago.
