According to LOHUD, families with low income can receive reimbursement for the cost of school meals. Eligible families can receive financial assistance from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to cover the cost of school meals. The funds are allocated from federal sources and are electronically loaded onto P-EBT and EBT cards.
However, many families are unaware of the availability of reimbursement for the cost of school meals expenses due to it having almost no publicity. This lack of public awareness could lead to financial difficulties for families struggling to make ends meet.

New P-EBT Benefit Cards Provide Money for Cost of School Meals for Children on SNAP Benefits
According to Yahoo Finance, kids who receive SNAP benefits could get the money for the cost of school meals through P-EBT food benefit cards.
For families or children who have not received P-EBT benefits, there is still an opportunity to apply for the 2021-2022 school year funds until the end of September. It’s important to note that students who missed school due to COVID-19 but did not receive payment will need to complete the NYS P-EBT food application here.
Families eligible for the cost of school meals will receive over $500 for last and this summer.
