Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) claimed on Thursday that at least 88 crisis pregnancy centers have been firebombed, damaged, or set on fire since the Dobbs ruling. Only one FACE Act prosecution was filed against these offenders during the DOJ’s scant response to this assault.

DOJ Uses FBI’s Authority to Target Pro-Life Protestors on the Pregnancy Center Attacks

Sen. Cruz noted in a conversation on the social media network formerly known as Twitter that the Justice Department relentlessly targets nonviolent pro-life protestors. But in stark contrast, the DOJ has used the FBI’s full weight and power against individuals who peacefully demonstrate outside abortion facilities.  The DOJ found Lauren Handy and four other abortion opponents guilty of nonviolently protesting yesterday. “They now risk receiving up to $350,000 in fines and 11 years in federal jail. Since Handy and others exposed a Washington, DC, abortion practitioner, the DOJ has been actively pursuing her. She was performing late-term abortions unlawfully.”

Cruz continued by stating that Attorney General Merrick Garland openly employs a politicized, two-tiered system of justice and that Garland should resign. Garland has politicized our justice system when you contrast how harshly the DOJ handles pro-life protesters like Lauren Handy and Mark Houck with how passively it handles those who damage churches and pregnancy centers. He ought to step down.

Unfairly Prosecution of Pro-Life Groups for the Pregnancy Center Attacks

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, the Justice Department is allegedly targeting pro-life groups, according to an article by The Daily Signal linked in Cruz’s thread: In response to Roe v. Wade’s overturn, the Justice Department is pursuing pro-life activists using the FACE Act, according to Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta in December 2022. Republican charges that the DOJ is unfairly persecuting pro-life activists like Catholic father Mark Houck were immediately followed by her remarks.

The attacks appear to be the work of domestic terrorists who support abortion, according to Catholic Vote’s “Tracking Attacks on Pregnancy Centers & Pro-Life Groups,” which was last updated on August 9, 2023. Since a draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked in the first few days of May 2022, at least 88 pregnancy resource centers and pro-life organizations have been attacked and vandalized. Domestic terrorists who support abortion have taken responsibility and carried out their threat of a “summer of rage.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) stated on Thursday, that since the Dobbs ruling, at least 88 crisis pregnancy clinics have been firebombed, vandalized, or set on fire. The DOJ’s response to this violence has been meager, with only one FACE Act prosecution being brought against these perpetrators.
