The previous mayor of Atlanta, Keisha Lance Bottoms, stated that the atmosphere outside of the Fulton County Jail before the arrest of former President Donald Trump was one that she had “never seen before.”
Situation at Fulton County Jail as Trump Surrenders
Bottoms described the situation outside the Fulton County Jail on Saturday, and according to an article published in The Hill, he said, “There was a lot of anger, a lot of hatred in the air.” Bottoms was speaking about the situation that took place. Bottoms, who had previous experience working in the Fulton County Jail, described the spectacle as being “surreal.” She had earlier described the hostile climate to CNN the week before. Willis had imposed a deadline for Trump to surrender and his 18 co-defendants at the Fulton County Jail in connection with a racketeering case, and the date had been extended to the previous Friday. Trump is accused of organizing measures to invalidate the outcome of the presidential election that took place in 2020. Earlier in the same week, Trump surrendered himself and announced it publicly.
As a direct result of his proclamation, scores of his supporters have gathered outside the jail in anticipation of his arrival. As of Friday, all 19 of the defendants have turned themselves into the authorities in Georgia.
Upon his arrival at the Fulton County Jail and subsequent booking, Donald Trump earned the distinction of becoming the first sitting president in the annals of American history to have his photograph taken for use as a mug shot. This was accomplished when he submitted to the process of having his portrait taken as part of the booking procedure. Many people in the audience confused her for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis when she arrived at the jail, and they began yelling, “Lock her up.”
