The private company Wexford Health Sources has been paid over $1 billion to provide medical care to people in the state’s prisons. But, this private company provides improper care, leading to suffering and preventable death.
Wexford Health Sources Provide Poor-Quality Of Care
Civil rights lawyers called on the state to fire the private company Wexford Health Sources because their health services do not provide proper care for people in wheelchairs left sitting in their own waste and cancers go undiagnosed, causing people will die painful deaths due to lack of care from private prison health company.
Illinois has been paying Wexford Health Sources over $1 billion to provide proper care since 2011. But now, the state faces a decision because the Wexford Health Sources contracts expired in 2021, but this private company continues to provide care in the state’s prisons. According to the Illinois lawyer, when Wexford Health Sources was first hired they provide better health services and have many medical staff. But now, Wexford Health Sources after 10 years provide improper care, almost half of all medical positions in the state’s prisons are vacant, and 80% of physician jobs are unfilled.
According to the source, employees leave because this private company focuses on its profits more than providing care. Both Illinois Attorney and other civil rights lawyers consider providing services via other state agencies. Wexford Health Sources are declining to answer about this issue.
