A Colorado officer Jordan Steinke left a woman handcuffed inside a police car and was hit by a train and was convicted of reckless endangerment and assault connected to the case.
‘I Did Not Notice’-Police said
A police officer Jordan Steinke handcuffed a woman in a patrol car parked on train tracks before was hit by a freight train. The police officer was pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and assault but acquitted of a third charge of criminal attempt to commit manslaughter. The woman suffered a traumatic brain injury after the train hit the police car.
According to the published article by Landon Mion, during the trial of police officer Jordan Steinke about the incident that leads to a 21-year-old Yareni Rios-Gonzalez suffering a traumatic brain injury. US Judge Timothy Kerns said that the officer was not guilty of attempted reckless manslaughter but he disregard the presence of railroad tracks and signs on the highway, while listening to the evidence the judge issued a verdict.
Jordan Steinke testified that he was not aware that the patrol car of another officer was parked on the tracks when he put Ms. Rios-Gonzalez in that officer’s vehicle. He said his attention was on the threat that could come from Ms. Rios-Gonzalez and did not realize the train was coming. But the judge found that he noticed the train but failed to appreciate the risk. Officer Jordan Steinke was faced with multiple charges.
