An inmate who escaped from the correctional facility in New Hampshire was shot and killed by a police officer after threatening two people with a knife in a Miami store.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections statement, Darien Young walked off the facility grounds for the prisoners on July 21. He was supposed to enter Calumet Housing transitional housing unit. However, the inmate did not return and was found six days later.
On July 27 in Miami Beach, a police officer received a call from 911 that said that a man was threatening two people with a knife at a Victoria’s Secret. When police arrived at the said store, a police officer shot Young.
According to the Police statement, Darien Young, 29, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and said he was in critical condition. However, he later on died, as the corrections department confirmed.
The inmate was incarcerated for controlled drugs, burglary, and other charges. He was eligible for parole on July 31.
The Miami Beach Police had stated that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would investigate the shooting.
