NYC Crane Collapsed At Least 12 People Suffered Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

At least 12 people including nine civilians and three firefighters were injured. They suffered minor injuries after the crane collapsed in New York City.

Crane Collapsed At Construction Site In Manhattan

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) confirmed that 12 people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after flames caused a crane to plummet near Hell’s Kitchen. The incident happened at a construction site located at 10th Avenue and 41st Street where the three fighters responded to a five-alarm fire that broke out before the boom of the crane collapsed.

One of the three firefighters suffered chest pains and was transported to local hospitals. According to the NY Fire Dept. Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer said that some of the civilians who got injured were construction workers. It was happened when the crane operator was lifting 16 tons of concrete and he noticed the fire in the crane’s engine, he tried to extinguish it but was overwhelmed by the flames. But no need to worry the crane operator got out safely.

According to the published report by Brynn Gingras and Dakin Andone, CNN, the firefighters arrived the boom had already crashed to the ground. The officials believed the fire weakened the crane’s cabling resulting to lose its strength and collapse. The NYC Department of Building (DOB) inspected the area and luckily the building was structurally stable. They will remain at the site with the engineers to look at the situation while planning for the safe removal of the collapsed crane and also to determine why this incident occurred in the first place.
