The 39 billion dollars in student loan debt that will be forgiven nationwide will help thousands of Tennesseans. This occurs at a time when people are doing their best to support their families despite the rising expense of living.
$870 Million for Student Loan Forgiveness
The Biden administration revealed on Friday that 800,000 Americans have been given the go-ahead for this new loan forgiveness program. 17,000 of those are in Tennessee out of the total. In total, the state will receive debt relief worth $870 million as a result. According to Vice President Joe Biden, this is for borrowers who have been making loan payments for at least 20 years.
President Joe Biden claims that the borrowers would join the millions of people who have received assistance from his Administration over the previous two years, totaling over $116 billion in loan relief to over 3 million borrowers under his Administration.
What should I do next, you might be thinking. According to the federal government, there is no work involved in receiving forgiveness. By contacting their loan provider, borrowers can choose not to participate in it for any reason. Payments for those who receive pardons will be suspended until their records are cleared.
