David Lee, a real estate developer who paid $500,000 in bribes to a Los Angeles city councilman to help resolve a downtown project in 2017, was sentenced Friday to six years in federal prison.
David Lee Is Sentenced In Federal Prison
Dae Yong Lee, commonly known as “David Lee,” was sentenced Friday to six years in federal prison and fined $750,000. A company that he controlled was fined $1.5 million plus prosecution costs, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
The AP news reported that the Prosecutors claimed that David Lee bribed the chair of the city’s powerful Planning and Land Use Management Committee José Huizar and the special assistant of the councilman back in 2017 to help him resolve a labor organization’s appeal that was blocking the permission of a planned development that to contain more than 200 residences and some 14,000 square feet of commercial space.
Moreover, José Huizar chaired d the city’s powerful Planning and Land Use Management Committee.
It was found out by prosecutors that David Lee had made three cash payments that total the amount of $500,000 to Huizar’s assistant, George Esparza, prosecutors said.

In 2022 David Lee And The Company Were Convicted
Authorities claimed that it was a lengthy year of pay-to-play bribery scheme from 2013 to 2017 for the approval of downtown high-rise developments, Krdo news reported.
In 2022, David Lee together with the company was convicted. They were all facing charges of bribery, honest services wire scam, and falsifying documents in federal investigations to conceal the bribes.
