Residential burglars in Saratoga steal safe, jewelry – The Mercury News



Dec. 16

Vehicle burglary, petty theft: Between 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 and 3:42 a.m. on Dec. 16, someone broke the rear driver’s side window of a vehicle parked in the 14000 block of Marilyn Lane and took a power drill for a total loss of about $20.
Check forgery, mail theft: Between 8 a.m. on Dec. 16 and 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 18, someone took a Saratoga resident’s check from a mailbox, changed the amount and cashed it at a bank for a total loss of $1,268.

Dec. 17

Residential burglary: Between 7:39 p.m. and 7:42 p.m., someone entered a residence in the 13000 block of Ronnie Way by shattering a sliding glass door and took jewelry items for a total loss of about $57,580.

Dec. 18

Grand theft: Between 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 18 and 12:08 a.m. on Dec. 19, someone entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of Saratoga city offices and took various personal items for a total loss of about $3,325.

Dec. 20

Residential burglary: At 9:38 a.m., someone entered a residence in the 14000 block of Jerries Drive via the rear sliding glass door. The suspect fled the scene without taking any items.

Dec. 21

Residential burglary: Between 4:15 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., someone entered a residence in the 14000 block of Via de Marcos via a sliding glass door and left without taking any items.

Dec. 22

Grand theft, possession of drug paraphernalia: At 1:54 p.m., the suspect took the victim’s $5,000 bicycle from in front of the McDonald’s restaurant on Prospect Road. Deputies located the suspect and recovered the bicycle. The suspect was in possession of drug paraphernalia and was booked into the main jail.

Residential burglary, conspiracy: Between 2:40 p.m. and 7:24 p.m., two suspects entered a residence in the 20000 block of Argonaut Drive by breaking a sliding glass door. The suspects took a safe for a total loss of about $316,500.

Dec. 30

Falsified license plate, possession of stolen items, a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia: At 1:07 p.m., deputies stopped a motorist at Saratoga Avenue and Bucknall Road for a vehicle equipment violation. An investigation revealed the driver was in possession of a stolen license plate, a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was booked into the main jail.

Organized retail theft, retail theft with intent for resale: At 10:50 p.m., the suspect took store merchandise without paying at the Safeway on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. An investigation revealed the suspect stole two days in a row from the same store. The suspect was booked into the main jail.

Dec. 31

Grand theft: Between noon on April 1 and 2 a.m. on Dec. 30, someone entered a residence in the 21000 block of Blue Hills Lane and stole a firearm.

Commercial burglary, conspiracy: At 1:58 a.m., two suspects broke through a door of a shed at a commercial building in the 14000 block of Big Basin Way. The suspects did not take any items and fled the scene.

Theft by false pretense, grand theft, conspiracy: Between noon on Nov. 25 and noon on Dec. 30, someone claiming to be a financial representative convinced a Saratoga resident to transfer cryptocurrency to an undisclosed account. The victim complied for a total loss of about $42,000.

Public intoxication: At 3:01 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Cinnabar Winery on Big Basin Way. An investigation revealed the suspect was unable to take care of herself due to being under the influence of alcohol. She was booked into the main jail.

Jan. 1

DUI: At 6:30 a.m., deputies stopped a motorist in the 12000 block of Scully Avenue for a traffic violation. An investigation resulted in the arrest of the suspect driver for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Grand theft, conspiracy: At 8:06 a.m., two suspects entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle in the 20000 block of Fourth Street and took $2,000 worth of sporting equipment.

Grand theft, mail theft: Between 9 p.m. on Jan. 1 and 8 a.m. on Jan. 2, someone took a US Postal Service mailbox unit in the 14000 block of Oak Street for a total loss of about $2,300.

Jan. 3

Evading a peace officer, possession of stolen property: At 3:30 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a vehicle at Quito Road and Saratoga Avenue for a traffic violation. The suspect drove away at a high rate of speed.

Petty theft; probation violation; possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia; obstructing, delaying or resisting arrest: Between 10:04 p.m. on Jan. 3 and 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 4, two suspects stole a tent in the 19000 block of Cox Avenue. An investigation revealed one of the two suspects was on county probation and in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. One suspect was booked into the main jail; the second suspect fled the scene.

Jan. 5

Organized retail theft, conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia: At 4:01 p.m., two suspects entered the Safeway on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and took store merchandise without paying. An investigation revelated the two suspects were in possession of drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were cited and released.
