Hit-and-run escalates to officer-involved shooting in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A hit-and-run incident early Saturday morning led to an officer-involved shooting at the intersection of Hillcroft and Richmond.

According to police, officers responded to the scene around 2:57 a.m. and found one vehicle with the driver still inside. The other vehicle involved had fled the scene. As officers approached to check on the driver, he exited his vehicle holding a firearm. The suspect, described as a Black male approximately 40 years old, was transported to the hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Impairment is suspected but has not yet been confirmed. Witnesses remained at the scene and provided details about the other vehicle, which is believed to be a black pickup truck.

No officers were injured in the incident. Both involved officers, a 14-year veteran and an 8-year veteran, discharged their weapons. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene. As per department policy, bodycam footage of the incident will be released within 30 days.
