WPBN: According to a decision made by a judge on Thursday, the Wisconsin lady who, when she was 12 years old, plotted with a friend to viciously stab a classmate in order to appease the imaginary horror figure “Slender Man,” is in a state of health that allows her to be discharged from a mentally health facility.
Morgan Geyser, who is 22 years old, has been a patient at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for almost seven years. According to the Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren, she is now prepared to be transferred to a group home, where her mental health will continue to be monitored.
Geyser has made significant progress, according to the testimony of three medical professionals who testified on Thursday. These specialists convinced Judge Bohren that she does not present a threat to public safety outside of the hospital confines.
“There’s nothing to suggest that she is a danger to herself or others. And I think there’s very little at this point that Winnebago (Mental Health Institute) can do for her, and that’s what they would say as well. I think it’s in her interest and in everybody’s interest to try to help her now become the person she can become,” Dr. Kenneth Robbins, a psychiatrist treating Geyser stated.
“I think that there is the risk that over time, if she is limited by the things that Winnebago can offer her, I could imagine her becoming hopeless at some point and potentially becoming a danger to herself. So yes, perhaps ironically, I think she would be safer outside of Winnebago.”
Deborah Collins, a forensic psychologist, concurred with the decision, stating that retaining Geyser at Winnebago would only be detrimental to her.
“Her compliance in the institution is remarkable, both with medication and with treatment, her lack of behavioral management problems in the institution, or lack of violence toward others in the institution and toward herself. Those are all those all bode well for her readiness for conditional release at this time,” she stated. “Certainly for Ms. Geyser, the longer she’s there at this point, I think the more challenging it’s going to be to reintegrate.”
Additionally, according to psychologist Brooke Lundbohm’s testimony, Geyser has reacted favorably to being taken off of anti-psychotic drugs.

To start the vicious attack, Geyser and Anissa Weier enticed classmate Payton Leutner to a park in Waukesha on May 31, 2014. Prosecutors claim that while Weier encouraged Leutner, Geyser repeatedly stabbed her.
Leutner barely made it out alive, and all three of the girls were twelve at the time. Weier was discharged from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in the fall of 2021 after spending over four years there.

According to defense attorneys, Geyser and Weier felt they had to attack Leutner or face the threat of Slender Man, the imaginary boogeyman, pursuing their families.
On Thursday, Bohren described the 2014 stabbing as “brutal,” but the judge also noted that Geyser has demonstrated that she is prepared to reintegrate into society.
“She’s done what she’s supposed to do,” Bohren stated. “She appears to have a good attitude.”
