Where are the Los Angeles area wildfires?


(NewsNation) — Multiple wildfires are ripping through parts of the Los Angeles, California, area, scorching thousands of acres.

There have been two deaths reported in the Eaton Fire, located in the Angeles National Forest and Altadena area of Los Angeles County and Pasadena.

Wildfires in California

Wildfires began on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and tore through Los Angeles. A significant number of people are injured, and more than 80,000 people are under evacuation orders, according to officials.

Palisades Fire

The blaze in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles was first reported as a vegetation fire around 10:30 a.m. PT Tuesday and has now grown to cover 11,802 acres.

There were a high number of injuries to residents who did not evacuate, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone said, as well as some wounded first responders, but no fatalities in the Palisades fire.

Around 1,000 structures were destroyed, Marrone said.

Eaton Fire

A fire erupted around 7:30 p.m. PT in the Eaton Canyon area north of Altadena, California, roughly 40 miles east of the Pacific Palisades’ blaze. As of Wednesday morning, it has burned 10,600 acres.

Along with the two civilian deaths, 100 structures were destroyed, Marrone said.

Hurst Fire

The Hurst Fire, which started at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday in Sylmar, Los Angeles County, has burned 505 acres since then.

Woodley Fire

The Woodley Fire began at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday around North Woodley Avenue, Sepulveda Basin in Los Angeles County. On Wednesday, CAL Fire wrote that it burned 30 acres.

Olivas Fire

The Olivas Fire began at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday near Olivas Park Dr & E Harbor Boulevard in Ventura. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had burned 11 acres.
