18 Puppies Rescued by Local Shelter: More Foster Homes Needed

WPBN: The administrators of a local animal rescue organization in Mainville have stated that they require additional fosters in order to ensure that they are able to keep up with the number of puppies that they have rescued.

Janel Hemrick, the founder and director of Myles Ahead Animal Sanctuary and Rescue, recently gave an interview in which she discussed a recent animal rescue that involved the rescue of 18 puppies from what she considers to be a hoarding scenario.

“There’s always a gut feeling of ‘is this a safe place?’ Hemrick stated. “These guys were going to be outside. We’re having 50 mph winds. They’re babies, some of these guys are seven weeks old.”

For the purpose of providing immunizations, feedings, and cuddles to 18 puppies, a production line was established. Early on Sunday afternoon, Myles Ahead came to the rescue.

According to Hemrick, she was aware that these puppies required them, but at the moment, there are not enough foster families available to take in the dogs.

“Unfortunately it feels like we say ‘no’ more than we say ‘yes’ and it’s simply because we don’t have the calls or the capabilities of helping more,” according to Hemrick.

They were taken in just one day after many kittens were rescued, and the puppies who were rescued on Sunday were taken in.

According to Hemrick, the demand for foster care is expected to continue to increase as they continue to transform conference rooms into sanctuaries for animals.

“Without fosters willing to open up their hearts and their home to these little guys and get them adopted and vetted, there is no Myles Ahead,” Hemrick says.

According to Hemrick, there are many different ways for people to volunteer and assist Myles Ahead. Hemrick says that there are constant needs for veterinary care, cleaning, and feeding for animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and even tortoises.

According to her, volunteers keep them operating so that they can assist a greater number of animals in finding loving families and safe homes.

“There’s always a need for people to take on a small part to help the overall picture,” Hemrick stated. “So right now, we need fosters and people who will step up and work on our adoption team.”

On Sunday, four of the puppies who were rescued still require foster homes. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, you can do so by visiting the website for Myles Ahead.

If you are in need of assistance for your pet, Myles Ahead has a food pantry that is open on Wednesdays. This is in addition to the rescues that they offer.
