Colorado, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to sweep across Colorado’s mountainous regions, bringing significant snowfall and dangerous travel conditions through Saturday.
The National Weather Service issued multiple alerts, including a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Friday morning and a Winter Storm Warning starting Friday at noon. High-elevation areas, including Elkhead, Gore, and Sawatch mountains, could see snow totals of up to 16 inches. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 50 mph, compounding the hazardous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and treacherous. Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile at times due to falling and blowing snow, particularly Friday evening into Saturday morning.
Residents and travelers are urged to prepare for potential delays and difficult driving conditions. Emergency kits with food, water, warm clothing, and flashlights are highly recommended. For real-time road updates, call 511 or visit cotrip.org.
