Wilmington, IL – A Crest Hill woman faces charges after an alleged attempted arson at a Wilmington apartment building on Sunday.
Police were dispatched to 132 S. First St. after a disturbance call. Upon arrival, they found a woman attempting to ignite a fire in the crawl space of a multi-unit apartment complex. Residents were evacuated safely, and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing significant damage.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, Kimberly J. Glista, 41, was identified as the suspect. Investigators, including the State Fire Marshal and arson specialists, determined the fire was intentional.
Glista was arrested and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. She faces charges of aggravated attempted arson and attempted residential arson. As of Tuesday, she remains in custody awaiting her next court appearance.
Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported, and the building sustained no major structural damage.
Residents praised the swift response of local police and the Wilmington Fire Protection District, which likely averted a more severe outcome.
