Eureka, CA – Strong winds and heavy rains are expected to impact Eureka and surrounding areas tonight, posing risks for travelers and residents. A wind advisory is in effect for Del Norte and Humboldt counties, with gusts reaching 31 mph predicted by the National Weather Service (NWS).
According to the NWS, the advisory lasts through Thursday night, with increased risks of falling tree branches, power outages, and debris on major roads, including U.S. Highway 101. Travelers are urged to drive cautiously, as strong crosswinds may make driving hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.
In addition to the winds, a high surf advisory remains active for the Northern California coastline. Waves as high as 20 feet could create dangerous conditions at beaches. Residents are advised to stay away from shorelines and avoid walking on jetties.
Friday will bring continued rain and breezy conditions, with gusts slightly calming to around 22 mph. Heavy precipitation is likely through the weekend, with total rainfall ranging between one and two inches. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the upper 40s.
The NWS also warns of potential flooding in low-lying areas and near rivers. Those traveling this weekend are encouraged to check weather updates and road conditions frequently. Emergency kits, including flashlights, extra batteries, and water, should be on hand in case of power outages.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to stabilize slightly early next week, but showers could linger into Monday. Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates.
