Fort Worth, TX – A severe weather system is expected to impact North and Central Texas today, posing risks for drivers and holiday travelers. Thunderstorms could bring heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes, with the most severe conditions east of I-35 and south of I-20.
According to the National Weather Service, storms will develop this morning along and west of I-35, intensifying by afternoon. Severe weather timing is most likely between noon and 4 p.m. Drivers on I-20 and I-35 should anticipate reduced visibility, slick roads, and potential hazards from high winds or hail.
Morning fog, with visibility as low as five miles, adds further danger for those on the road. Travelers are urged to have multiple ways to receive alerts, including weather apps or NOAA radios. If conditions worsen, avoid driving in flood-prone areas and seek shelter immediately.
The weather will stabilize overnight as the cold front exits, bringing partly cloudy skies Friday. Fort Worth’s extended forecast promises a mix of patchy fog, sunshine, and mild temperatures through the weekend. Friday’s high will reach 69°F with clear skies continuing into Saturday and Sunday, offering excellent post-Christmas travel conditions.
