Joliet, IL – A 39-year-old man died early Wednesday morning after an incident at a Shell gas station on South Larkin Avenue.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 4:25 a.m. reporting a man claiming someone was trying to kill him. When police arrived, the caller displayed erratic behavior and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
According to police, the man resisted efforts to detain him for safety, yelling and struggling. He lost consciousness after falling to the ground. Officers deployed Narcan, temporarily reviving him before paramedics arrived. He was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators discovered the man’s vehicle nearby, damaged from striking a fence and a tree. Police found no evidence supporting his claim of a gun threat.
The Will County Coroner’s Office will determine the man’s identity and cause of death. The Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation. Officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per policy.
