Des Moines, IA – Fog and drizzle will persist across central Iowa into Thursday, creating hazardous conditions for post-Christmas travelers. Drivers on I-80 and I-35 are urged to prepare for low visibility and slick roads.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog will continue today, particularly during the morning hours. Highs will reach near 39 degrees this afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Tonight, drizzle is expected to redevelop, accompanied by widespread fog, making nighttime travel especially dangerous.

Thursday brings increased rain chances, with light showers likely by afternoon and highs near 45 degrees. Overnight, rain becomes more widespread, tapering off Friday morning. Visibility will remain a concern throughout this period due to fog and precipitation.

The forecast improves heading into the weekend, with dry conditions likely Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures will climb to the low 50s, a welcome break for holiday plans. However, Saturday morning travelers may still encounter wet roads as light rain lingers into early hours.

The weather service urges caution for all who must travel during periods of fog and rain. Drivers should keep headlights on, reduce speed, and allow extra stopping distance. Pedestrians and cyclists are also reminded to wear reflective clothing to stay visible.

Warmer, sunnier weather is expected by Sunday, providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities after a dreary start to the holiday week. Stay tuned for updates on changing conditions.
