Central Texas, TX – Severe thunderstorms could bring hail up to one inch thick and damaging winds before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Weather officials warn of escalating storm activity as conditions evolve.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms are developing along a southeast-moving cold front. Afternoon heating has pushed temperatures into the 70s, creating conditions favorable for intense convection. The Storm Prediction Center estimates a 40% chance of issuing a severe weather watch later today.
Residents in Central Texas are advised to monitor weather updates closely. Sporadic large hail and gusty winds may precede widespread storm development. Early reports indicate hail up to 0.5 inches, but forecasters predict stronger cells could generate hail between 1.0 and 1.5 inches in the coming hours.
The storm threat extends toward the Texas Coastal Plain into the evening as moisture and instability increase. While a watch has not yet been issued, officials emphasize that severe weather could escalate quickly.
Stay indoors, secure loose outdoor items, and prepare for potential power outages.
