Logansport, IN – Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting early Monday following a report of two stabbings in rural Carroll County.
Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on the 3000 block of W. County Road 500 S. around 12:23 a.m., where they found one stabbing victim and provided medical aid. While retrieving supplies, a deputy encountered Christopher S. Evans, 35, armed with knives.
According to police, Evans ignored commands to disarm and charged at the deputy. The officer retreated into a nearby field before firing their weapon, striking Evans. Despite efforts to save his life, Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.
One stabbing victim remains in critical but stable condition, while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The deputy, who was uninjured, has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues. The Indiana State Police, along with the Carroll County Coroner and Prosecutor’s offices, is leading the case.
Questions regarding the deputy should be directed to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Findings will be submitted to the prosecutor upon completion.
