Pendleton, OR – A strong winter storm is expected to bring moderate to heavy snowfall across the Washington Cascades from Christmas afternoon through Thursday. Areas above 3,000 feet are forecast to experience significant snow accumulation, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for both the upper and lower slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest. Snowfall is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday evening. Accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are predicted.
For the Upper Slopes, the advisory runs from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday, affecting communities such as Roslyn and Easton. In the Lower Slopes, including Cle Elum and Cliffdell, the advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Heavy snowfall combined with low visibility will make travel extremely dangerous, especially through mountain passes. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution. The Washington State Department of Transportation recommends checking wsdot.wa.com/travel for up-to-date road conditions before heading out.
Be prepared for delays and ensure vehicles are equipped for winter weather.
