Albuquerque, NM – Dry and mild conditions will dominate today across northern and central New Mexico, but significant weather changes are on the horizon. A quick-moving weather disturbance is forecast to bring light snow, strong gusty winds, and cooler temperatures to northern high elevations beginning tomorrow, Christmas Day.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque, snow accumulation is most likely along the Raton Pass and higher mountain areas, creating hazardous travel conditions. Winds could gust up to 40 mph across the southern-central mountains, further complicating roadways. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, especially along north-south routes such as Interstate 25 and U.S. 64/87, where slick roads are expected late Wednesday into Christmas night.
Today’s forecast remains sunny with highs reaching 58°F in Albuquerque and surrounding central areas. Tonight will be mostly clear, with lows around 29°F. Tomorrow, light showers could develop after 11 a.m., turning into snow at higher elevations by the evening. Christmas Day highs are expected near 55°F in Albuquerque but cooler in mountain regions.
Looking ahead, isolated rain or snow showers could linger into Wednesday night, with conditions clearing by Thursday. Highs will stay in the mid-50s through the weekend, offering mild and mostly sunny weather for post-holiday plans.
