Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across Western Pennsylvania are advised to remain cautious as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Tuesday. Light freezing rain and drizzle may create hazardous travel conditions, especially on elevated roadways and bridges.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the greatest risk of ice accumulation is expected in higher elevation areas, including parts of eastern Tucker County and ridge tops. Motorists should plan for slower travel times and consider avoiding untreated roads.
Temperatures today will remain in the mid-to-upper 30s, with cloudy skies dominating the forecast. Highs will hover around 39 degrees in Pittsburgh, providing little relief from freezing conditions in shaded or exposed areas.
Looking ahead, Christmas Day promises drier and milder weather, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 41 degrees. The warmer temperatures are expected to persist into Thursday and Friday, with highs reaching the mid-40s to near 50 degrees by week’s end.
While the immediate threat of freezing rain ends tonight, forecasters warn of additional rain chances by Saturday and Sunday. Travelers heading out for holiday plans this weekend should monitor forecasts for potential rain-related disruptions.
