Springfield, MO – Rain and patchy fog are creating challenging travel conditions across the region today, particularly along I-44. Drivers are urged to use caution as visibility remains low and slick roads increase accident risks during holiday travel.

According to the National Weather Service, a 90% chance of rain persists throughout the day, with highs reaching 46°F. Patchy fog will further limit visibility, especially in the early morning and evening hours. Temperatures will remain above freezing, so wintry precipitation is not expected, but localized flooding south of I-44 could impact low-lying areas.

Christmas Day will see lingering drizzle early in the morning, clearing slightly with highs near 51°F. Those traveling later this week should prepare for a significant storm system expected Thursday night into Friday. This system could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a risk of localized flooding, particularly in areas with saturated soils.

The holiday weekend offers some relief as the rain clears out by Saturday. Highs will climb to the upper 50s, with partly cloudy skies providing more pleasant conditions for post-Christmas activities.

For those driving today, the National Weather Service emphasizes reducing speeds on wet roads, turning on headlights in foggy conditions, and avoiding flooded areas. Stay updated on the latest conditions by visiting weather.gov.

Prepare for changing conditions this week and monitor travel routes for potential delays. Holiday travelers should plan ahead to stay safe and avoid peak storm times later in the week.
