Grand Forks, ND – Dense fog continues to create hazardous travel conditions across eastern North Dakota this morning, with a fog advisory in effect until noon. Drivers on I-29 and other major roadways face visibility under a quarter mile, making travel challenging.
According to the National Weather Service, the dense fog could also deposit ice crystals on surfaces, increasing the risk of slippery roads and walkways. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.
The advisory impacts several counties, including Grand Forks, Traill, and Walsh. Conditions are expected to improve gradually this afternoon as temperatures rise to 28°F. However, patchy fog could return overnight and linger into Christmas morning.
Christmas Day will see slightly warmer temperatures, with a high near 32°F and mostly cloudy skies. Winds from the south could reach 16 mph, creating a brisk feel despite the mild conditions.
Looking ahead, the weather will remain stable through Thursday, with highs in the mid-30s. Partly sunny skies are expected Thursday, offering a brief break from the overcast pattern. By Friday, clouds will return, and temperatures could rise to 36°F, with light southeast winds.
Travelers and residents should remain cautious through the foggy conditions today and watch for updates as conditions evolve. For those celebrating Christmas, improving weather offers hope for safer travel later in the week.
