Debate Sparks Over Tax Abatement Extension for Le Mars Apartment Complexes
According to Le Mars Sentinel, During the Le Mars City Council meeting on March 5, there was a big discussion about whether to give a tax break to a guy named Joe Galles. He wanted the break for his apartment buildings at 1 Park Lane and 217 First Ave. S.E. Galles wanted three more years of paying less tax which would save him around $18,303 for 1 Park Lane and $8,178 for 217 First Ave. S.E. The council talked about if they should make the tax abatement last for 10 years instead of seven but they decided not to.

Le Mars Council Deliberates Tax Abatements, Urban Development, and Trail Maintenance
Even though some of the council members weren’t sure about the tax Abatement they voted mostly in favor of giving Galles the extra three years. But they didn’t change the rule to make tax abatements last for 10 years. The council also talked about other things like a new industrial park and fixing up a trail. They had a chat about gravel on a path too. They also talked about buying or selling some land. Overall it was a meeting where they talked about a lot of important stuff for Le Mars.
