MILWAUKEE, WI – Eastern Wisconsin is preparing for potentially hazardous weather as lake effect snowfall is expected to intensify from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. Communities in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties are expected to receive between 2 and 4 inches of snow accumulation, with some areas possibly receiving even more.
The heaviest snow will fall along the lakeshore, especially in Racine and Kenosha, according to the National Weather Service. Travelers should be prepared for difficult conditions on major routes such as I-94 and US Highway 41 during Monday morning rush hour. Visibility can suddenly decrease in snowpack, creating dangerous driving conditions.
Snow showers will begin late Sunday evening and taper off by Monday afternoon. Winds from the north could reach 15 mph, increasing the risk of blowing snow. Temperatures will remain below zero, with highs reaching the mid 20s.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be partly sunny with temperatures struggling to rise above the 20s. By Thursday, a mild warming trend could take the high near 30 degrees.
Residents are advised to keep an eye on weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak hours of snowfall. Salt trucks and plows will remain active throughout the area, but untreated roads may still pose significant hazards.
Stay informed and plan accordingly as Wisconsin gets its first significant snowfall of the new year.
