Strong, potentially damaging wind gusts are on the way for all of southern New England overnight and especially on Thursday.
The combination of a strong storm near northern Maine along with a powerful high-pressure system centered over eastern Tennessee will generate gusty west wind on the order of 40-50mph with gusts as high as 55mph for some areas.
This type of wind certainly has the potential to cause pockets of damage with scattered power outages a possibility.
Of course, any holiday decorations left untethered in the yard will be vulnerable to this wind as well, it might be a good idea to secure them tonight OR take them down altogether if possible.
The wind will settle down a bit for Friday as the temperature turns colder. The weekend looks cold and dry BUT still breezy at times with wind chills in the teens and lower 20s.
Overall, the forecast looks dry for the next week to 10 days but we are watching a storm early next week that COULD bring a period of light snow showers to the coast. Right now, most of that storm looks to stay to our south but we will be watching it closely!
