The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 12:49 a.m. on Saturday for heavy snow until 1:45 a.m. for Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties.
“At 12:48 a.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Corbett to near South Danby and moving southeast at 40 MPH,” according to the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include Binghamton, Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Kirkwood, Conklin, Maine, Liberty, South Fallsburg and Callicoon. This includes the following highway exits: new York Interstate 81 between 1 and 6. Interstate 86/Route 17 between 66 and 94, near 100, and between 101 and 103. Interstate 88 between 1 and 6. Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 223 and 230.
The weather service comments, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this area of heavy snow. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents.”
