NY weather: Weather alert for heavy snow in Sullivan County until 2 a.m. Saturday

The National Weather Service issued a report at 1:54 a.m. on Saturday for heavy snow until 2:45 a.m. for Sullivan County.

“At 1:54 a.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Rutledgedale to near Montrose and moving southeast at 40 MPH,” says the weather service.

Locations impacted by the alert include Lackawaxen, Honesdale, Damascus, Jackson, Shohola, Forest City, Tusten, Waymart, New Milford and Vandling. This includes the following highway exits: pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 217 and 223.

According to the weather service, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this area of heavy snow. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents.”

Advance Local Weather Alerts is a service provided by United Robots, which uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service.
