cleveland, oh – Parts of northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania experienced heavy snowfall from January 1-5, with some areas recording more than 30 inches of snowfall. The lake effect blizzard particularly left its mark in Ashtabula County, Ohio and Erie County, Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, 22 inches of rain fell in Pierpont, OH, while 29.5 inches fell in Edinboro, PA. Snowfall of 10–20 inches was widespread across the region, especially in primary snowbelt areas near Lake Erie.
Trained spotters reported 19.6 inches in Wellsfield, OH, and 29.3 inches in Wesleyville, PA. These totals reflect significant challenges for residents, as roads, businesses and schools were affected by the storm. Crews worked around the clock to clear roads, but secondary roads and rural areas remained dangerous.
With more snowfall forecast, officials especially urged drivers to use caution. Residents are encouraged to stock up on supplies and stay informed about changing conditions.
