Raleigh, NC – North Carolina residents are bracing for mild conditions as a winter weather advisory goes into effect at midnight. Freezing rain is expected to make roads and sidewalks dangerous through Monday morning.
Light snow accumulations may occur in areas including Granville, Halifax, Person, Vance and Warren counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Roads, bridges and overpasses are expected to be dangerously slick, especially during the Monday morning commute.
Residents are urged to travel slowly, exercise extreme caution when traveling and allow extra time to reach their destination. The NWS also advises to prepare for possible power outages due to ice accumulation on power lines. Drivers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511.
This advisory will remain in effect till Monday afternoon. The temperature is expected to increase slightly in the afternoon, which will improve the situation. However, freezing rain could return this weekend as temperatures drop below zero again.
The five-day forecast predicts the maximum temperature to be around 40 by Thursday, while the minimum temperature will be around the zero mark. Rain is expected in the middle of the week, which may turn to snow if temperatures drop rapidly.
