St. Louis, MO – A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Illinois and Missouri, with heavy snow and ice expected to create dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday. Parts of southwestern and central Illinois could see 6 to 9 inches of snow, along with additional sleet and snow accumulations of up to a quarter inch. Areas affected include Quincy, Pittsfield and Alton.
Hazardous conditions can make travel nearly impossible, especially during the Monday morning commute. Residents are advised to limit travel and prepare emergency kits with flashlights, food and water. In southern Illinois, snow accumulation can cause power outages and damage to trees.
