Charleston, WV – West Virginia residents are preparing for significant snowfall this weekend as a winter storm moves through the region. Forecasts call for up to 12 inches of snowfall, along with icy roads.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulations could reach up to a foot in central and southeast counties, along with wind gusts up to 45 mph. A Winter Storm Watch will begin Sunday morning, bringing mixed precipitation and additional snowfall of 6 to 10 inches in some areas.
The storm is expected to create dangerous conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Power outages are also possible due to heavy snow accumulation on tree branches and power lines. Officials recommend delaying travel, but if travel is essential, motorists should carry winter essentials, including blankets, water and tire chains.
Local officials urge residents to monitor updates and prepare for the possibility of difficult conditions. “This is a severe storm that is expected to have significant impacts throughout the region,” a National Weather Service spokesperson said Friday.
