Lincoln, IL – A significant winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and travel disruptions to Central Illinois this weekend.
The National Weather Service forecasts 6 to 12 inches of snowfall south of Interstate 72, with local areas receiving even more snow. Snowfall will start from Saturday night, will intensify on Sunday and will continue till Monday. Northern areas will see less accumulation due to the sharp decline in snowfall north of the storm’s edge.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 60% chance of at least 8 inches of snowfall south of the Jacksonville-to-Paris line. Blowing and drifting snow could complicate travel Sunday night into Monday, although large-scale blizzard conditions are unlikely.
Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates, as refined forecasts are expected by Saturday morning. Preparations such as stockpiling supplies and avoiding unnecessary travel are recommended.
Local authorities and emergency services are on alert to deal with possible road hazards and power cuts. Stay informed through reliable sources as situations develop.
