Amarillo, TX – Dense fog is creating dangerous driving conditions in the Texas Panhandle Saturday morning. A dense fog advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., affecting visibility on I-40 and surrounding roads. Motorists are advised to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights and use caution.
Visibility dropped to less than a quarter mile in some areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo. The advisory warned of poor conditions on bridges due to moisture and possible frost. Due to increase in temperature, the fog is expected to clear by mid-morning, giving rise to mild sunshine and the maximum temperature will be around 63 degrees.
This weekend, Amarillo will enjoy warmer weather than the seasonal average. Saturday night brings clear skies and cool temperatures, with lows dropping to 23 degrees and winds gusting up to 20 mph. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 43, although wind gusts as high as 35 mph may make outdoor activities easier.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will see mostly sunny conditions, with highs in the 40s and lows in the mid 20s. While the New Year begins with mild weather, residents are encouraged to stay updated on local forecasts for possible wind advisories.
