HUNTSVILLE, AL – Severe weather is expected across the Tennessee Valley Sunday evening, bringing damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the risk of localized flooding. Motorists should use caution, especially on I-565 and US Highway 72, as conditions can deteriorate rapidly after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville, the storm is forecast to arrive in the area around 6 p.m. and continue through Monday morning. Wind gusts can reach up to 40 mph, and rain can flood roads, reducing visibility and increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Following the storm, the Tennessee Valley will experience a significant drop in temperatures. Light snow or showers may occur Monday morning, although accumulations are not expected. By midweek, temperatures are expected to drop, with highs in the mid 30s and wind chills in the teens.
Residents should secure outdoor items, monitor local weather alerts and make sure they have multiple ways to receive warnings in the event of a power outage. Preparations should also include dressing in layers and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets when the season’s coldest winds arrive.
The week ahead will be cool, with lows in the teens and highs barely reaching 40°F by Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay updated on forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during dangerous weather conditions.
