FORD COUNTY, IL – A winter storm is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions across parts of Illinois and Indiana Sunday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for areas near US-24, including Ford and Iroquois counties in Illinois and Benton County in Indiana.
According to the NWS, snow is expected between 7 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, with falling and blowing snow reducing visibility. Travel impacts may be worse further south, especially in areas colored orange on the advisory map. Travelers should plan for slippery roads, low visibility and possible delays.
Officials advise drivers to travel slowly, allow extra travel time and maintain greater driving distance. Residents should also be prepared for snow accumulation that could extend beyond Monday morning.
This storm is the first significant travel advisory of the season in the region. Local officials are urging caution, especially those traveling overnight or during early morning commutes.
