GREEN BAY, WI – Extremely cold temperatures and below zero wind chills are headed to Wisconsin this weekend, prompting hazardous weather alerts and safety warnings. Residents should prepare for bitterly cold conditions, with wind chills as low as -20°F by Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), wind chills between 0°F and -20°F are expected across northern and central Wisconsin. The coldest periods will be overnight and early Sunday, with temperatures as low as -30°F in areas west of Duluth, MN. These conditions create the risk of frostbite on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes.
The NWS recommends minimizing outdoor exposure, dressing in several warm layers, and covering exposed skin. If traveling, motorists should carry emergency kits and make sure vehicles are prepared for winter. Major highways such as I-41 and US-29 in the Green Bay area may see slow conditions due to blizzard conditions.
Looking ahead, Sunday’s temperatures in Green Bay will reach 21°F, which will provide some relief before another cold night with a low of 13°F. Conditions improved on Monday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 26°F. Temperatures will remain stable till the middle of the week, with highs around 20 and skies that will be mostly clear.
While Wisconsin avoids snowfall this weekend, below zero wind chill makes outdoor activities dangerous. Stay updated by checking the NWS website or local broadcasts for the latest advice.
