Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is set to experience extremely cold conditions this weekend, with high temperatures struggling to rise above freezing. A mix of scattered thunderstorms and clouds will persist on Saturday, after which the weather will clear up but the cold will continue on Sunday early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, temperatures Saturday will range from 27 to 30 degrees, with overnight lows falling around 16 degrees. Winds will reach up to 24 mph, making conditions feel even colder. Motorists should drive with caution on major routes such as I-75 and I-94 as light snowfall may cause slippery conditions.
Skies will be a little brighter on Sunday and the high will hover around 28 degrees, but gusty winds could make it feel like the teens. By Monday night, lake-effect snow showers may develop from Lake Huron, which will especially impact areas near the Thumb region. Temperatures will continue to drop, with night lows hovering near single digits and wind chills well below zero.
Looking ahead, the bitter cold will continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid 20s and mostly cloudy skies. Residents should prepare for icy roads, bundle up in layers and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets.
